The family devises a plan to trap Tartuffe into confession. They hope that after his confession, Orgon will throw Tartuffe out of the house. Indeed, Tartuffe tries to seduce Elmire, but their interview is interrupted when Orgon's son, Damis, jumps out of his hiding place to denounce Tartuffe.Orgon is convinced that Damis was lying and banishes him from the house. Tartuffe even gets Orgon to order that he should be around Elmire more than ever.Orgon also signs over all his worldly possessions to Tartuffe. Elmire tells Orgon to be witness of Tartuffe himself. Once overheard, Tartuffe is incrimated by Orgon and ordered from the house. Tartuffe tries to blackmail Orgon, but it doesn't work and in the end is arrested.
