On an APT Device

• Upon arrival in the Hill Lobby, visit the Information Window to pick up reserved captioning devices.
• You can adjust the brightness and text size in the GalaPro settings at the top left corner. We recommend using the gray text and turning the brightness up all the way.
• You can also adjust the screen brightness by swiping up (brighter) or down (dimmer) on the touchscreen.

On a Personal Device – Before you go

• Download the GalaPro app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
• Open the GalaPro app. On the home page, select GET STARTED NOW (or LOGIN if you already have an account.)
• If this is your first time using GalaPro, you will need to set up an account. Enter your email address, create a password, and accept the terms of service. Be sure to save this email and password – you will need it to login to GalaPro when you arrive at APT. TIP: Simple passwords are recommended. Only 6 characters are required, non-case/character specific.
• You can test the app by scrolling to the bottom of the landing page and hitting the play button on the demo.
• Please fully charge your device before your arrival at the theater.

On a Personal Device - At the Show

• Once you are in the theater, open the GalaPro app and sign-in using your email and password. If you don’t have cellular coverage, you can connect to the APT-Guest wifi (no password required).
• In the GalaPro app, scroll and select As You Like It from the show list OR tap the compass arrow and choose SPRING GREEN.
• Press the blue Play icon.
• Follow the prompts to set your phone to “Airplane Mode”. Then go to the Wifi settings on your phone and connect to the “APT-GalaPro” network. The password is “galapro1” (all lowercase).
• We recommend going into GalaPro settings at the top left corner to increase the brightness on your screen, and switch the text to gray. You may also increase the text size in settings.
• You can also adjust the screen brightness by swiping up (brighter) or down (dimmer) on the touchscreen.

Tips & Troubleshooting

• GalaPro will only work if your phone is in airplane mode. If you switch out of Airplane mode at intermission, be sure to reset your phone before the play resumes.

For matinees, direct sunlight may make the captions harder to read. Using an APT captioning device or reversing the contrast on your personal device (if you have this feature – check your accessibility settings) will greatly improve your experience.

What happens if I forget my GalaPro account password?
A Forgot Password link is available on the app. A reset email will be sent immediately to your GalaPro account email address, allowing you to do a quick reset.

What if I encounter issues using GalaPro at the theater?
Our Front of House team will be happy to assist you, should you have questions at the theatre. Visit the Information Window in the theater lobby or contact one of our staff in the green polo shirts.

What is Galapro?

GalaPro is a service that delivers real-time closed captioning and audio descriptions to an individual’s mobile device via the free GalaPro app. It is already used in 90% of Broadway theaters and many regional theaters across the US. APT is among the first in Wisconsin to offer this captioning service to our audiences.

Why use GalaPro?
GalaPro is not only beneficial for our Deaf/deaf and hard of hearing audience, it is beneficial to further understand the production. Many GalaPro users find it extremely helpful in following a fast dialogue or a show that includes many accents.

How does GalaPro work? Will it be distracting to other audience members?
The GalaPro app has been carefully designed for live theater. The app automatically reduces screen brightness and uses a dark background. The captions appear as red or grey text on a black screen. It only operates in ‘Airplane mode’ which blocks incoming calls and messages.

What performances have captioning? Is specific seating required?
This year, APT is offering GalaPro captioning for every performance of Much Ado About Nothing and King Lear from August 20 - September 29 in the Hill Theatre, in any seat in the theater. For the best experience, an evening performance is recommended. For matinees, direct sunlight may make the captions harder to read. Using an APT captioning device or reversing the contrast on your personal device (if you have this feature – check your accessibility settings) will greatly improve your experience.

Is there a charge for the captioning service?
No, audience members may use the service free of charge.

Are captioning devices available at APT?
Yes! APT has a limited number of tablets pre-loaded with the GalaPro app, and stands available to borrow, free of charge. These can be picked up at the Information Window in the lobby of the Hill Theatre. If you haven't done so, please fill out the interest form here. (Please have your tickets handy).

Can I use my own device?
The GalaPro app can be used on most smartphones, as long as the operating system is up to date (typically this is a version released within the 4 years).

Due to limited WiFi and cellular coverage at APT, patrons should download and install the GalaPro App and set up a login prior to arriving at the theatre. Please ensure your device is fully charged before you arrive at the theater. See the instructions instructions below for how to set up and use the GalaPro app.

Do you offer device holders?
A limited number of holders compatible with most phones and small tablets are available for use, free of charge. Please visit the Information Window in the Hill Theatre Lobby.
