A Note About Winter Words

Winter Words Note

Can you believe, this is our 10th year of Winter Words?! Over the last decade these readings have become so important to season planning, and an ideal warm-up for the season. After a quiet few months, it’s nice to dip our toe into a few smaller projects before the rush of the summer hits. But more than that, we warm up at the sight of seeing you, our most loyal, enthusiastic and curious patrons. And, of course, Winter Words warms up a few of those long winter nights with just a dash of APT magic.

It does feel a little like magic, doesn’t it? When you think that these actors are only spending one day rehearsing before doing the reading this very night? Everything is possible. An adventure. So we’re grateful that our relationship with you allows us to take risks like this, to explore new, or new-to-us plays.

Brenda made a new rule for this winter’s exploration: only comedies. Comedies light up the season and bring joy to the audience. We all need that. We’re eager to find some new ones and test out some we already know. We hope you find some joy and light in this quartet of comedy. And thanks for the warm-up!

Sincerely,

Brenda DeVita, Artistic Director
Sara Young, Managing Director

P.S. Be sure to check out two Winter Words “graduates” in the upcoming season. Anna in the Tropics by Nilo Cruz was read in 2020. The Death of Chuck Brown by Gavin Lawrence was part of 2023 Winter Words with its former title, The Barber and the Unknown Prince.
