Today at APT - 54 days to open

Here's what's been going on today at APT. Today at APT – 54 days to open Sorry that “Today at APT” has been MIA for a few days. Last Friday was the deadline for returning ticket buyers to get the best discounts of the season, and the phones at the box office were ringing off the hook. It was “all hands on deck” to package up and send out all the tickets. But that’s over now, and we’re on to our next pre-season sales campaign (still great discounts, for those of you who haven’t bought yet). The pace here continues to pick up in anticipation of the beginning of rehearsal and then the beginning of the season. Some of the carpenters started yesterday; their main job this week is to repair the stage. Michael Broh (our production manager) tells us it’s getting harder each year and that soon we’ll be ready for a complete rebuild. But for now we patch it together for another season. Last weekend, the maintenance staff did a controlled burn of several of the prairie areas at APT. Saturday was a good day for it – nice weather, not too much wind. Right now it looks a little scorchy on the property, but all in the name of having a healthier, prettier prairie in the coming months. This week, we brought on a few more maintenance people for the season. They’re starting to work in earnest to get the property presentable for the audience. Down in the artistic offices, Brenda DeVita finished casting the dog for Of Mice and Men. Actually, two dogs will alternate in the role. We hear the dogs and the owners are excited about their big break. Brenda also interviewed and hired a Tai Chi master to work on The Tempest. It looks like Ariel and her gang will be incorporating it into the movement of the show. It should be very cool. Finally, we can tell that the season is coming soon because David Frank is starting to delegate more of his work in anticipation of the beginning of rehearsals. He’s directing two shows this season – Blithe Spirit and The Cure at Troy – so it’s important for him to wrap up as many administrative matters as possible in the next couple weeks. He’s doing a great job – putting things into the hands of trusty staff members. We’ll see what tomorrow brings. That’s what happened Today at APT.
