One Shakespearean comedy and one tragedy — “Much Ado About Nothing” and “King Lear” — are set to play the Hill Theatre this coming summer at American Players Theatre.

Starting in June 2024, they’ll be joined by an August Wilson classic, a twins/mistaken-identity midcentury comedy, and a poignant Irish memory play.

APT, a classical repertory company in Spring Green, has been producing theater on an outdoor stage since the summer of 1979. In 2009, it opened the 200-seat indoor Touchstone Theatre. The company has been under the artistic direction of Brenda DeVita since 2014.

As DeVita prepares to open “Proof,” David Auburn’s drama, in the Touchstone this weekend, she and associate artistic director Carey Cannon shared a preview of the coming season. Directors and some casting has been decided, and some remains in progress.

The full 2024 schedule will be available in January. Tickets go on sale to returning patrons in March.
