Lindsay Christians of The Cap Times chats with Associate Artistic Director Carey Cannon and Director of Communications Sara Young about what's to come
Two Shakespeare plays (including “Hamlet”), one Jane Austen adaptation, a comedy of manners and an iconic Lorraine Hansberry drama are all part of a robust, characteristically ambitious season American Players Theatre has announced for 2022.
For the administrative team of this classical company in Spring Green, it marks a welcome return to normal.
“Old fashioned is the wrong word — it feels ‘APT,’” said Carey Cannon, APT’s associate artistic director. “Like getting back to the big shows, sweeping stories, a big company, five shows on the hill. ... We’ve missed it. We missed the community it creates, both with the artists and the audience, to be able to come and see multiple shows.”
“I called it a Big Old APT Season,” said Sara Young, APT’s director of communications. “We are looking forward to going back to our usual, our festival schedule of being able to do the plays in rotating rep.
“It feels essential to APT in a way we missed.”
