Today at APT -  29 Days to Open

Posted May 7, 2011 By APT

We've been bad about updating the "Today at APT" blog this week. You'll have to excuse us...with everything in full swing, sometimes time gets away. It has been an amazing week! We started on Monday with the "Director's Chat," a chance for a group of APT donors to hear directly from the directors about their shows. It also takes on a "first day of camp" quality as one of the donors put it. For many company members, it's their first time on property or back on property for a year. So everyone is meeting people, reconnecting, etc. That eventwas followed by an informal gathering at a favorite APT hangout -- The Shed. The Shed is a wonderful local bar/restaurant and the owners (Mark and Wynn Dedrich) and their staff always welcome APT staff back for the season with open arms. Tuesday, it was time to get down to work. Rehearsals began with introductions and welcoming comments. It was an overwhelmingly good feeling in the room. Following the first company meeting, there were readthroughs of a couple of the shows, and a couple more the next day. By today (the 4th day of rehearsal), most directors were launching into staging rehearsals (who goes where when). The costume shop has been extremely busy the last couple days making sure they have accurate measurements for all the actors and and the wig shop has been doing head wraps. Head wraps? Yep, literallyplastic wrap covered with clear tape, and then they mark out the actors' hairlines so they can accurately make a wig to fit each individual head. By the way, if you ever get a chance to see the wig shop in action, do it. It's a fascinating process. So, that's what is going on Today at APT. As we head into the weekend, rehearsals will continue. They work 6 days a week, and their day off is Monday. Costume shop is on duty too. We'll check back in next week.
