The Road Back: Vaccination Requirements

Touchstone Slideshow Summary

Learn more about the new guidelines and the reasons behind them in this week's The Road Back.

It’s been a long while since we’ve checked in with you via The Road Back. It has been as full and beautiful a season as we could have hoped, and it wouldn’t have happened without all of you.

Since we last spoke, requirements from our partner unions continue to ebb and flow along with COVID caseloads. And after much communication with outside sources, countless internal conversations, and the release of new safety protocols from Actors’ Equity Association, we've come to an important decision: beginning with the first performance of The Taming of the Shrew on October 14, APT will require proof of full vaccination or proof of a negative test result to enter the theater. We expect to continue this policy for The Gift of the Magi.

Here’s what you need to know:

Proof of Vaccination: APT staff members will be checking proof of vaccination in the Touchstone Theatre lobby. Audience members can provide proof of full vaccination status in a number of ways:

  • Provide your official vaccination card.
  • Provide a photo of your official card, with the name and date(s) clearly legible.
  • Provide proof of your listing on the state vaccine registry page, either on your phone or printed out in advance.

Negative Tests: Audience members who are not fully vaccinated must provide proof of negative test results received within 72 hours of the performance.

Students at School-Day Matinees & Children Under 12 years old are not subject to the vaccination or test policy.

Masking: Masks are required in all indoor spaces at APT including the Touchstone Theatre. Masks are not required in outdoor areas at APT, though we ask that you maintain distancing while on the grounds, and that you don your mask when approaching masked patrons on property.

A Few Other Things:

  • APT’s staff and company are fully vaccinated, and in a recent survey, approximately 96% of audience respondents reported having received at least one dose of a vaccine.
  • The decision to require vaccinations was made to help keep our audience, staff and community as safe as possible. With that in mind, please be respectful in your interactions with other audience members, and with APT staff.
  • If you have already purchased Taming of the Shrew tickets, and are uncomfortable with providing, or unable to provide proof of vaccination or proof of negative test, please contact the APT Box Office at 608-588-2361 to discuss your options, including exchanging into an APT at Home filmed performance, crediting your account for use in the 2022 season or receiving a refund.

Finally, we want to take a second to thank you once again for your patience, your understanding and your ceaseless support of APT. We know there have been many changes since this all started, but having plays on the stages, and an audience in the seats, has meant the world. We hope it has to you, too.

And in breaking news, we’ll be announcing the 2022 season plays later this month! So make sure to keep reading your Wednesday weekly Diversions, and start dreaming of summer to come, while enjoying the arrival of autumn’s gifts. We'll see you again soon!
