Can You Dig It?

To paraphrase APT Artistic Director David Frank, There are 3 things that are certain in this life- Death, taxes, and the return of the staff to begin the season at APT. And what a return it has been! This week saw a number of rehearsals take to the stage up the hill. One of the more disturbingly interesting moments was the test burial of Adam in As You Like It, played by Core Company Member Paul Bentzen. Now, before Paul has to issue a statement along the lines of 'The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.' we'll let you know that we didn't actually bury him. Paul is indeed alive and well and living in Wisconsin. The scene shop has made a burial site off Stage Right (to the left when you are sitting in the audience) and the prop shop has fabricated a very convincing (and awesome) shrouded corpse that will be buried (instead of Paul) during the intermission and at the top of Act II. The dirt that you see in the photos is a material made from recycled tires and rubber that has been color treated to resemble real dirt. The up side to this is A. we're using recycled materials and B. the dirt will have the same consistency from show to show whether the weather cooperates or not. So be sure to run to the restroom, grab your hot chocolate and Dove Bars and hurry back to see the action take place. Definitely not your average intermission!
