Now that summer is officially upon us, we want you to take in all the season has to offer. Consider visiting, staying, shopping and eating local by consulting APT’s helpful Area Guide on your next visit to Spring Green. APT’s Area Guide Spotlight series highlights all the things that make the Driftless area so incredible, including some of our favorite finds that should definitely be included on your summer itinerary.

About The Willows 1867

The Willows is a women-owned, family-run business with deep roots and rich history. Originally a working farm with ties to Frank Lloyd Wright, it has transformed into a welcoming Airbnb and charming wedding venue.

Located in a peaceful rural setting, The Willows is a beautifully preserved 5-bedroom, 3-bathroom home that comfortably sleeps up to 11 guests. Built in 1867 by A.D. German, a farmer and host who cherished both the land and the home, the property has remained in the same family for generations.

Today, The Willows offers a unique opportunity to experience history, celebrate life’s special moments, or simply enjoy a relaxing retreat in a timeless setting. Whether you're planning an intimate wedding, a family gathering, or a weekend getaway, The Willows invites you to create your own memories in a place where tradition, comfort, and charm come together in harmony. Come stay where history lives on.

Rooted in History

The Willows has been in the German family for over 157 years. When it was set to go up for sale, two sisters and their daughters chose to keep it in the family by investing in the property. They restored the beloved farm they grew up near, bringing it back to life so others could experience and enjoy its charm.

People may be surprised to learn that the house took 20 years to build, beginning in 1867. Frank Lloyd Wright also visited the property many times while assisting with the design of the A.D. German Warehouse, located in downtown Richland Center.

New Life in an Antique Building

The Willows is just over twenty miles from APT, ideally located in the heart of the Driftless Area. Surrounded by natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, it's the perfect home base for exploring local attractions, including American Players Theatre and nearby Frank Lloyd Wright landmarks. Whether you're attending a show, touring architectural sites, or simply enjoying the scenic countryside, The Willows offers a comfortable and convenient stay for you and your group.

And speaking of groups, with few wedding venues and lodging options in the area, we set out to create a unique experience—one that celebrates the beauty of our community and allows others to share in it.

This business is special to us because it allows us to share a place we’ve always called home. Each of us grew up within a mile of the property, and we’ve poured our time, care, and thought into remodeling it. Our goal is to create a space where others can feel the warmth, history, and character that make it so meaningful to our family.
