Director, Measure for Measure

Risa is happy to return to APT where she directed The Government Inspector and Uncle Vanya. Brainin has directed Shakespeare’s plays at theaters across the country including Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Shakespeare Festival of St. Louis, Great Lakes Theatre Festival and Idaho Shakespeare Festival. Plays include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, As You Like It, Comedy of Errors, Hamlet, Julius Caesar, King Lear, Macbeth, Merchant of Venice, Othello and Timon of Athens. She has directed at Denver Center Theatre Company, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Playmakers Repertory Company and many others. She served as Resident Director and Associate Company Director at the Guthrie Theater, Associate Artistic Director at both Indiana Repertory Theatre and Kansas City Repertory Theatre, and Artistic Director at Shakespeare Santa Cruz. A graduate of the Carnegie-Mellon University Drama Program, Brainin is the Artistic Director of the groundbreaking new play development program LAUNCH PAD at UC Santa Barbara.
