Marilet Martinez is a queer, bilingual, San Francisco native, multi-hyphenate artist and educator, who prioritizes collaborative intersectionality and community empowerment. They have originated roles in over 10 world premieres in the Bay Area and champion new works by living playwrights. Marilet splits time between the Midwest and her home state as she is half of Tus Tias Productions (in residency at Urban Theatre Company in Humboldt Park, Chicago) and the Director of Youth and Community Arts at PCPA on the Central Coast of California. At PCPA, she has directed mainstage productions of The River Bride and Wolf and the Door both written by Marisela Treviño Orta. She has also directed TYA favorites Blast Off (by Maya Malan-Gonzalez), Dulce (by Ramón Esquivel), and the Breaking Througha dapted by Leo Cortez based off the novel by Dr. Francisco Jiménez (Winner Best Theatre for Young Audiences—2023 Broadway World Santa Barbara Awards). Her original works co-written with creative partner Jessi Realz (Tus Tias Productions) have been featured at La Jolla Playhouse’s New Latinx Playwrights Festival in 2023 and the Latinx Theatre Commons Comedy Carnaval in 2022. Tus Tias Productions also houses the nationally renowned and award winning all Latine comedy collective Ratas De Dos Patas. Tus Tías continues to build community through comedy, cultura, and corazón. Marilet is energized and grateful to return to APT as Anna in the Tropics marks the fourth collaboration between her and Director Robert Ramirez. Pa la cultura!
