The Nature of APT
APT's 110 acres are an integral part of the experience. Take a guided hike to learn about the flora and fauna. You'll visit our restored prairies, oak savanna and much more.

Saturday, August 5 at 12:00 pm
Company Management: Making APT Home
Each year, APT hosts more than 100 actors, artisans and staff from across the country, and it’s up to the company manager to make them all feel at home. How does she house so many people in such a small town? How does she make sure everyone has a spatula? A plunger? And how does she get any sleep at all? Join Company Manager Nicole Tilford for a fascinating look far beyond the stage, but essential to APT’s success.

Saturday, August 19 at 12:00 pm
The Scenery Scene
How does a scene designer’s drawing become reality? And how does it happen at APT, given special considerations of weather and changing scenery on a daily basis? Bill DuWell, APT’s veteran technical director, will show you the scene shop where it happens and take you through the process step by step.

Sunday, September 3 at 4:00 pm
Making a Season: Casting and Play Selection
Why do we choose the plays we choose at APT? And then how do we choose who is in the play? It’s an intriguing process – mostly artistic vision, but also with ingredients of math, synergy and luck. Join Artistic Director Brenda DeVita and Associate Artistic Director Carey Cannon for a peek into the future.

Sunday, September 17 at 4:00 pm
APT in the Classroom with David Daniel
Join APT’s dynamic (and slightly wacky) Education Director David Daniel to learn more about APT’s work in schools. He’ll share APT’s philosophy of what teaching artists can add to a classroom experience to make poetry come alive for students. David’s programs are usually highly participatory. You’ve been warned.
