Colleen Madden reprised a Milwaukee performance in APT’s indoor space this summer, and her solo performance of Pamela Gein’s autobiographical play about growing up in South Africa was stunning and heart-wrenching.

“Madden’s command of the many characters is masterful,” I wrote at the time. “‘The Syringa Tree’ is a beautiful, complex, often wrenching story of a girl and her love (and rejection) of the land where she was born.”
