James Pickering
James is an Associate Artist at Milwaukee Repertory Theater, and was a member of its Resident Acting Company for thirty-nine years. He returns for his second season at American Players, a company he has frequently visited and long admired. Last season he appeared Up the Hill as The Duke of Milan in Two Gents, a tragedian in Rozencrantz and Guildenstern, and The Ghost, The Player King, and The First Gravedigger in Hamlet. Among Shakespearean roles he has played in other divers venues are King Henry IV, Owen Glendower, Malvolio, Sir Toby Belch, Prospero, and Ebenezer Scrooge. Recent notable roles for Milwaukee Rep include Hugh in Translations, Richard Harkin in The Seafarer, Dave Moss in Glengarry Glen Ross, and Niels Bohr in Cactivehagen. Most recently he appeared as Poppy 1 in Three Views of the Same Object for Next Act Theatre. A founding member of Optimist Theatre’s Shakespeare in the Park, he is a former Trustee of the Ten Chimneys Foundation, and has received both Milwaukee’s Outstanding Artist and Penn State’s Alumni Achievement Awards. He has an active voice-over talent career, one of the highlights of which is his narration of the Emmy Award-winning documentary The Making of Milwaukee.
